I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been behind the bar and had to tell someone, “I don’t know who won the game. I don’t follow sports.” They normally reply, “But you’re a bartender.”  I smile and say, “Exactly. What would you like to drink?” That normally shuts them up but there are a few people men who insist on catching me up on everything. I’d rather slip and fall on a metal pourer spout than listen to sports talk, but I indulge them all in the name of a tip.
However, it didn’t work the other day when some bro from Oklahoma got annoyed when I said, “I’m rooting for Miami. How can you hate a team for trying to buy a championship? Isn’t that what professional sports is all about now and days? The Heat are paying good money for a ring so they deserve it!” and left me only 10 percent. I wonder if the other 8-10 percent he should have given me went towards his ESPN bill, or a Kevin Durant jersey, or a ticket to next season’s opening game or any of the other things fans spend money on that ends up paying for these players sizable salaries. Wherever it went, I’m rooting for the Super Sonics Heat!
